Are you
moving into a new apartment or trying to re-organize your floor space? I know
that it is a herculean task to undertake, and it seriously needs a sensible
approach with proper planning. Optimal placing of the components in discussion
is crucial and it depends on a lot of factors like size of the room, size of
the furniture and the layout of the floor space. There are ways to go over this
whole process and it requires meticulous involvement and a desire to attain
perfection, only then your home would reflect your style, character and taste
in its rawest essence. I moved into my new flats in Tambaram, Chennai recently and this is what I have figured out on how to
augment the living space with optimized and smart furniture placement.
Identifying the focal
point of space:
Once you are
ready to get involved in the process of organizing, you need to have a certain
kind of clarity on what to do with the space you got. The first and foremost
aspect under this whole changeover should be to identify a focal point.
Focal point
could be anything that you want to stand out distinctively in your home. It
could be your fireplace, or your entertainment unit, or it could even be your
cosy beige couch with a window view inviting you to jump in and unwind. Find
that out and place all your furniture facing that specific focal point.
Clearing the clutter
out:
Clutter is
messy and messy is not at all fun. A messy room easily attracts frowned eyes
towards the subject as though it is a mermaid resting under a tree. Unorganized
paper stacks, broken toys, insignificant pictures adorned in a frame and books
that you would never touch are all useless clutter. It is time to throw them
all way as soon as possible. If there is a personal attachment to something
that could pass as a clutter, it is better to have it locked in a keepsake box,
safe and out of view.
Space to stroll around:
You cannot
call it your own space if you are not able to enjoy a leisurely stroll right
inside your home. You should be able to read a book or take a sip of your
favourite beverage while meandering around your own living space without
hitting a furniture leg and hurting yourself. If not, your space needs some
kind of a re-arrangement.
Be mindful
and conscious about what you place in the space that you have. Do not overdo it
and use what you really need. You can fulfil your comfort, utility and storage
needs; but nothing more than that. Do not compromise your precious space for
something that doesn’t deserve to be there.
DO NOT fill up the
perimeter:
Another red
flag is to fill the perimeter of your room with furniture. Doing this would
make the space look stagnant and dull. Anyhow, stacking up all your furniture
in the centre of your room would again look un-cool. Place your largest couch
in the centre and spread all the armchairs, bean bags and foot chairs around
it. Balance the space and furniture around the layout and scatter them around.
A playful kitchen is a
blessing:
If you are a
freak who loves entertainment even in a kitchen, then it is better to invest in
a mobile workstation. Try to sneak some furniture into your kitchen space for
minimal seating purposes. This way you can indulge in a deep and profound
conversation with someone while you prepare a delightful dinner for later. Find
stools that can be accommodated under your counter space.
Perfect dining involves
sensible placement:
One thing
that you should know is that the dining setup should take up the space in the
centre of the room. Bring in a sideboard or a chest of drawers along the wall
to store all your cutlery, linens and flatware. Light up the dining space with
ambient lighting to treat yourself the way you deserve every single day.
Keeping it real:
If you have
a bay window like I have in my new flats for sale in Tambaram, then it is advisable to place your cosy bed right
next to it. Identify the practical elements that you need in your bedroom. Find
a bedside table, dresser with a mirror and a chair that blends with the wall
colours. Throw pillows and artsy portraits in the wall are fantabulous add-ons.
Before doing
all this, it is very important to measure the space you have in hand before you
purchase your furniture. Keep in mind that you need plenty of space to stroll
around comfortably.
